Your Library Card

Getting a card, renewing materials, placing holds, etc.

Who can get a card
Any one who is a resident of the City of Roodhouse and can show proof of residence may have a library card. All outstanding fines to us and any library you patronized before us must be paid before a card can be issued. Your library card can be used in any public library in the state of Illinois.

Non-residence fees
Any person not residing in the city limits is considered a non-resident.  That would include Roodhouse township, Patterson, and Hillview. The cost for a non-resident is $29.00 per year per family. As with a resident card your card can be used at any public library in the state of Illinois.

How to Get Your Card
Simply come in with your proof of residence, fill out the form and you will then be the proud owner of a Roodhouse Public Library Card! To use our computers you must fill out a different form. All persons under 18 must have  a parent or guardian sign the permission slip. Children under 13 are allowed to use them for homework and must have a consent form signed and on file.

Borrowing Limits
First time or new card holders may check out just one or two books until we get to know you. If you have had a card for a while the limit is up to 10 books (not new) and the limit on DVDs is 2 movies for 3 days. New releases or new to the library books are limited to two books for a two week check out, no renewals for six weeks. This policy was put into place because of abuse and will be strictly enforced.

 Placing Holds
I do not like to holds, but I know that they are sometimes needed. If there is a new book you will want to read, ask about it and if there is a list I will add your name to it. I will only hold a book for one (1) day after you have been notified then it will go to the next person on the list.

Renewing Your Borrowed Items

Books and  other items may be renewed by phone or by coming in, 217/589-5123. All books except for new releases and new to the library books may be renewed. New releases may be renewed after 6 weeks.

Library Fines
All fines are $.10 a day per book, movie, etc. Lost or damaged books will be the replacement cost plus a $4.00 handeling fee. No books or other items may be checked out or the computers used by anyone in the immediate family until fines and outstanding items are paid. Fines add up very quickly so remember to get items back on time. We understand that sometimes books get misplaced or forgotten, but please just because you are late returning your book don't just skip bringing it back.We will not hesitate to do whaterver steps we must take to get our materials back. Books and other items we loan out cost too much for us to replace, not to mention how rude it is not to return books that others would like or need to read. So please bring them back!
